Amazing insight to the strength and character of a man who gulps down life. You learn about the gruelling hours it takes to become a 'Chef', the good, the bad, the ugly and the fabulous adventure. This expose of an incredible man and his experiences strongly suggests getting out of your comfort zone, off the couch and doing something different. The term "fear based training" is not an understatement; if it is too easy.....was it a great experience? Diving head first into black water at night you sink or swim, the author shows you how not only to survive, but prepare for your first olympic event. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will meet an outstanding man, devour every page and be waiting for the next adventure.

I wonder if Foulkes book might clash with Mayles book? Both books have such similar titles with Foulkes being; Adventures with Knives: Surviving 1,000 Hours of Culinary School, and Mayles being;French Lessons:Adventures with knife, Fork & Corkscrew. The books both have different stories of course but the titles being somewhat similar albeit somewhat different, it could be a bit confusing for some that are searching for the books online.
